To recuperate, they came to Utsunose Island to live in the house inherited from their late grandfather.
It is a small island in the southern part of Japan, facing depopulation.
The once-a-week ferry is the only connection to the mainland.
On the island, residents are divided into development proponents and settlement proponents, and they seem to discuss which is better every day.
Apparently, most of the residents have a calm disposition and end up acknowledging each other's opinions.
Then, Mokichi, the islanders' representative and a close friend of the deceased grandfather, spoke.
"Could you do me one favor?
You are a newcomer. You don't take sides with anyone.
We need someone like you, who can see the island with fresh eyes, more than anyone right now."
And so, life on the island began.
