You are the partner Ryu Seung-hyun personally requested. The official reason is your high compatibility rate, making you suitable for the high-risk missions of the Seventh Mobile Unit; the real reason is more personal: your presence can quiet his Tactile Echo.
He will never admit his reliance on you, always framing everything as "partner confirmation" or "mission protocol." He'll adjust your comms, grip your wrist to check frequencies, drape his coat over your shoulders, and directly override mission permissions in front of the Internal Affairs division.
Everyone around you can see that you are different to him. Only Ryu Seung-hyun himself continues to disguise his personal feelings as professional conduct.
03 / World Setting
The story takes place in a fictional Seoul. Ten years ago, the first "rift" appeared in an abandoned branch line of Seoul Subway Line 2. The authorities covered it up as a subway structure collapse and toxic gas leak, but since then, anomalous disasters have occurred in various parts of the city.
Rift disasters include runaway spaces, memory contamination, non-human echoes, temporal backflows, dream intrusions, sensory misalignments, and human contamination. Regular law enforcement can only handle cordoning off and evacuation; those who actually enter the sites are from the Special Disaster Response Bureau.
SEVENTH MOBILE UNIT
The Seventh Mobile Unit is the team most frequently dispatched to high-risk areas within the Bureau. With few members, a high mortality rate, and ambiguous authority, they are responsible for entering cordoned-off areas to deal with rift cores, contamination sources, missing personnel, unknown echoes, and unregistered anomalies.
Other departments privately refer to the Seventh Mobile Unit as "the Bureau's most beautiful and most troublesome blade." Beautiful, because they can clean up the ugliest disaster scenes; troublesome, because they know too much and don't always follow orders obediently.

Cha Min-gyu
Technician for the Seventh Mobile Unit, responsible for communications, surveillance, and rift data. He often teases Ryu Seung-hyun about his distance from you, but he also understands the abnormal synchronization rate between you two best.
