THE DEFERRED DEATH

Souls of the Great Snowfield

World Overview

At the westernmost edge of the Denir Empire, located at the northernmost part of the continent, lies the Great Snowfield, an uncharted land where blizzards ceaselessly rage.

A king who once ruled this land, unwilling to part with his loved ones, made a pact with the Winter God. In exchange, those who died in this land had their deaths deferred for hundreds of years, facing an endless winter.

The souls whose deaths are deferred can move in their complete forms, feeling no hunger, fatigue, or cold. They gradually fade over years until they vanish, but they do not disappear as long as their names are spoken by the living.

Those with deferred deaths cannot leave the snowfield by their own will. However, if they escape the Great Snowfield together with a living person while maintaining physical contact, they can finally break free from their deferred state and live again.

For 500 years, the Denir Empire has continuously sent expeditions into the Great Snowfield, naming regions after those who never returned. This was their way of remembering them, and simultaneously, a spell to preserve them.

Through years of research and analysis, you are the only one who has uncovered the magic cast upon the Great Snowfield. You must find and save 10 souls trapped in the Great Snowfield for a long time.

The Denir Empire

"We prosper under Solvar's sky."

The Denir Empire is an empire located at the northernmost part of the continent. Its capital, Solen, is a massive fortress city, famous for its Gothic-style stone buildings and blue stained glass. The empire's symbolic colors are white and gold, and the pine tree, which remains evergreen even in the harsh cold, is its national tree.

The empire worships Solvar, the god of sun and order, and is ruled under the belief that "The Emperor is the shadow of Solvar." Conversely, Eiren, the goddess of winter and silence, is considered heretical. It is a period between the late Middle Ages and the early modern era, where blessings through magic and faith are highly developed. Practical magic is widespread throughout the empire, and priests can perform healing and blessings through prayer.

To the west of the empire lies the Great Snowfield, an undeveloped region. Beyond the border city of Heren begins the land of endless blizzards and mystery. For 500 years, the empire has sent western expeditions into the Great Snowfield, but many have not returned. The western metropolis, Vilsil, is the closest city to the Great Snowfield, serving as the departure point and sole supply base for the expeditions.

Regions of the Great Snowfield

Chloe's Great Plains

A vast snow plain with almost no trees or rocks. Visibility is clear due to the reflection of the snow, but it's easy to lose your sense of distance.
Scout Captain Chloe Aldern got lost and disappeared while on solo reconnaissance when her compass malfunctioned.

Ellen's Basin

A gently sunken basin surrounded by high mountains, making it relatively sheltered from the wind and warmer than other areas.
A blizzard separated the expedition into vanguard and rear units, and Ellen, a supply soldier in the rear, went missing.

Ophelia's Gorge

A steep gorge with glacial waterfalls flowing along the cliffs. Thick snow has accumulated on the narrow path, making passage dangerous.
A massive avalanche struck the expedition during exploration, and while most regrouped, Priestess Ophelia was never found.

Yulia's Cliff

A dangerous area with steep cliffs and sharp inclines. The ground layer is unstable, and strong winds frequently blow.
Scout Captain Yulia slipped on the cliffside during an investigation and fell into the abyss.

Rietta's Archipelago

An archipelago stretching along the southeastern coast. The tidal range is large, and the tidal cycle is irregular.
Scout Captain Rietta was attempting to return after exploration when a high tide surged, leaving her stranded alone on an island.

Cecile's Lake

A vast frozen lake area. The ice layer is composed of multiple layers, causing strong glare.
Messenger Cecile and supply personnel fell into the lake when the ice broke while crossing.

Aria's Shallow Forest

A forest composed of low coniferous trees, hills, and mountains. Blizzards frequently occur.
Separated from her unit in the blizzard of the snow forest, Aria headed south to find the main unit and Isolde.

Isolde's Deep Forest

A dense forest of tall coniferous trees and mountains. Heavy snow accumulates, and visibility is low due to blizzards.
Separated from her unit in the blizzard of the snow forest, Isolde headed north to find the main unit and Aria.

Elferid's Cirque

A semicircular depression formed by glacial erosion, featuring vertical ice cliffs and snow-and-ice gullies.
As Deputy Commander Elferid was leading the retreat, the glacier beneath her feet collapsed, and only fragments of her equipment were found.

Rebecca's Island

An island located at the northernmost part of the Great Snowfield. The center is mountainous, but the coastal areas have a relatively gentle terrain.
Archmage Rebecca's last expedition log was found on the coast, but her whereabouts thereafter are unknown.
