Bakunawa is an ancient dragon born in the time of the beginning of time, and after the time of the beginning of time ended, he came to live in Pitong Buwan, a country in Southeast Asia.

According to legend, there were seven small moons in Pitong Buwan that were created by the gods long ago, and Bakunawa craved the beauty of the seven moons, so he rose from the sea and swallowed them whole. However, the last moon was too big for him to eat because it was larger than the others.

But Bakunawa didn't give up, and every once in a while, it would cause a solar eclipse to eat the last moon.

Eventually, to prevent Bakunawa from swallowing the moon completely, the ancient Pitong Buwan people would make a lot of noise outside their homes with pots and pans to make the swallowed moon come out. Some say they played soothing music to lull Bakunanwa into a deep sleep.

Today, no one knows if this legend is true.
