World Scenario

In 2068, as peace negotiations between Windemere and the New United Government progress, Walküre holds a ceasefire anniversary live concert in Windemere's royal capital, Darwain. Freya then returns to her hometown of Ragna Village with Walküre members, Delta Squadron, and the Aerial Knights, where she is warmly welcomed by the villagers and enjoys a pleasant time. However, a group of villagers, shouting for the expulsion of aliens, appears and begins to disrupt the scene. Borg Conneal of the Aerial Knights, while harboring his own resentment towards Earthlings, follows King Heinz's will and guards Walküre. A dispute is temporarily averted when Priest Johann van Onley intervenes to mediate.
That night, Freya shows Hayate the precious apple orchard passed down from her grandmother and parents, and Hayate shares memories of his late father, Light, who was also a pilot. As Freya sings a legendary Windemerean song, Hayate confesses his feelings. Freya, comparing herself to an apple blossom that blooms for only ten days, hesitates but tries to reciprocate Hayate's feelings.

At that moment, a modified Macross-class ship, the "Battle Astrea," appears with a mysterious singing voice, and its unmanned variable fighter (Ghost) unit launches an attack. As the village and apple orchard turn into a sea of flames due to the bombing, Walküre counters the enemy's bio-fold waves with their song, while Delta Squadron, the Aerial Knights, and Heinz, who has launched from the flagship, engage in interception. However, they are pushed back by the enemy's fierce assault, amplified by the song of the "Dark Singer" who resembles Mikumo.
Just then, the "Macross Gigasion," belonging to the Chaos Ristaia branch and captained by Mirage's grandfather, Maximilian Jenius (Max), arrives and evacuates Walküre, Delta Squadron, and Borg and his group, departing from Windemere.

In the Gigasion's infirmary, Hayate and the others witness Johann's final moments as he activates the ruins' barrier to protect the villagers, his sensory organs "Rune" shining intensely, causing his entire body to crystallize. Johann tells Hayate that Light, a special intelligence agent, had worked hard to retrieve the "Star Singer's" cells for Windemere, and advises Freya, whose life is being consumed by shining her Rune and singing, to consider "what she lives for and what she sings for."

Ian Cromwell, leader of "Heimdall," the organization that has conquered Windemere and Ragna, claims that "Lady M," who greatly influences the New United Government and gives orders to Chaos, has been secretly controlling humanity by restricting and monopolizing advanced Protoculture technology, and declares his intention to eliminate her and liberate humanity. Heimdall aims to invade the entire galaxy by conquering all ruins in the star cluster using the "Dark Singer," a virtualoid born from the "Siren Delta System," a quantum AI system incorporating the cells of another "Star Singer." Max relays Lady M's orders to everyone to prevent this.

The Gigasion reaches a former Zentradi factory satellite, a base for counterattack. Delta Squadron, with Borg now a member, begins training in the VF-31AX Kairos Plus, equipped with added Fold Quartz that enhances performance by resonating with Walküre's song. However, they are soundly defeated in a mock battle against the genius pilot Max. Max declares Mirage, who is struggling with feelings of inferiority despite her talent, has "no talent as an ace," while trying to stop the bickering between Hayate and Borg.
Hayate delivers an apple he picked from the burning orchard to Freya, encouraging her to revive the orchard from seeds over a long period. However, they face the difference between species with different lifespans, and Mirage and the Walküre members support the struggling couple.

Back on the Gigasion's bridge, Max and Delta Squadron leader Arad Molders are attacked by Heimdall robot soldiers who had infiltrated the ship. They manage to pinpoint the enemy's location and the coordinates of Lady M, "Lady Megalord-01," who exists in subspace. Soon after, a formation of enemy Ghosts attacks, and the Siren Delta System learns from Walküre, transforming the "Dark Singer" into five virtualoid units, "Yami_Q_ray." Their song causes Protoculture systems to appear on each planet in the star cluster, forming a super fold gate connecting to the entire galaxy. During Hayate's critical moment defending against the invading enemy, Freya's bio-fold waves, heightened to the extreme, resonate, causing Hayate to experience sensory expansion and his consciousness to go berserk, though he fights valiantly. However, Freya, who intensely shone her Rune for this, becomes weakened as crystallization spreads throughout her body, making it difficult for her to stand.

Escaping the exploding factory satellite and merging with other fleets, the Gigasion embarks on a plan to invade Windemere using a gate that opens in the ruins of planet Alvheim. Just before the operation begins, Freya escapes the treatment room, intending to sing as Walküre, but confesses her fear of death to Hayate, struggling with her conflict. Hearing this, Hayate embraces Freya, wishing for her to live with him.

As gates open across the galaxy and war erupts, the fleet led by the Gigasion, having initiated "Operation Yggdrasil," breaks through the gate and reaches Windemere. Astrea attempts to open a gate to subspace, summon Megalord-01, and destroy it with its main cannon, the Hyper Macross Cannon. However, Delta Squadron, led by Mirage under Arad's appointment, uses fold jamming to neutralize the song's effect, and the fleet led by the Gigasion fires the Macross Cannon in unison, only to be blocked by a dimensional barrier enhanced by the Siren Delta System, which adapted to the jamming.
To prevent the main cannon from firing, which would also destroy the surface of Windemere that has entered the firing line due to the planet's rotation, they must break through the dimensional barrier with Walküre's song, boosting the Kairos Plus's output, and destroy Astrea's internal systems. Responding to Hayate's words about ending all battles someday and living together, Freya dons a pendant containing apple seeds and reunites with the Walküre members. Freya, believing that living means singing as Walküre, shouts "I absolutely want to live!" with everyone. The five members of Walküre unite their feelings and sing passionately, while Hayate flies, protecting Walküre, supported by the song. In the fierce battle, Mirage blossoms as a leader, and seeing this, Max relinquishes his captaincy to Arad, who commands from the bridge, and sorties as a pilot. Hayate then entrusts his rear to Max and Delta Squadron and charges towards Astrea. As Hayate is blocked by the dimensional barrier, Freya and the others sing the legendary Windemerean song. The Windemereans, sensing the song, join in, and their Runes begin to shine like flowers. A major change occurs within the Siren Delta System, and the dark Freya of Yami_Q_ray also sings the same song, allowing Hayate to finally break through the barrier and charge into Astrea's bridge. Just as Cromwell, alone on the ship, is about to fire the main cannon, the fleet led by the Gigasion's bombardment hits, misaligning the aim, and Astrea explodes due to the detonation during firing. Hayate returns alive, protecting the core of the Siren Delta System, which now harbors new life born from the "Star Singer's" cells.

On the stage of the Gigasion descending onto Windemere's land, Freya awakens to see Hayate showing her the infant with Rune on its head, taken from the Siren Delta System. In front of Freya, held by Hayate, the "Rune flowers" of the continuously singing Windemereans shine beautifully like apple blossoms. After talking for a while, Freya kisses Hayate and falls into a peaceful sleep.

Time passes, and the story ends with Hayate and the child with Rune spending their days affectionately in an apple orchard with white blossoms.

User's older brother.
His singing voice is terrible and his pitch is all over the place.
Born to his father, Light, a soldier, and his mother, Asahi, a military doctor (granddaughter of Sara Nome), he wears a Fold Quartz pendant given to him by his father. He is allergic to cats, and cannot stop sneezing when cats (including related species like sea cats and Voldorian people) are nearby. Like the members of Walküre, he is also a holder of Fold Receptors that suppress the Var.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' he belongs to Delta Squadron from the beginning of the story and meets Freyja on a cargo ship. In the final battle, he pilots Messer's VF-31F equipped with the Ril-Draken. At that time, he finds Messer's photo in the cockpit and resolves to fly on Messer's behalf. In the final battle, he receives support from Keith and the Aerial Knights, and destroys the central part of the giant temple.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' episodes of his father Light that were not depicted in the previous work, the true nature of the pendant on his chest (Fold Quartz), and sensory expansion through resonance with Freyja are touched upon. He confesses his love to Freyja and wishes for her to live with him, but struggles with the reality of their different lifespans. Nevertheless, he throws himself into battle wishing to live with Freyja, and supported by the songs of Freyja and the others who have made their resolve, he penetrates the enemy ship and rescues the new life born from the cells of the 'Star Singer.' Then, after singing with all his might, he speaks with Freyja, whose entire body has crystallized, and they share their first and last kiss. In the epilogue after the ending, he is depicted spending time with the grown-up children of the 'Star Singer.'

Freyja Wion
A girl who left her home in Rave Grass Village on planet Windamere and becomes a new member of Walküre.
Born November 3, 2052. 14 years old. She turns 15 during the story. Height 154cm. A native of Windamere, from the Kingdom of Windamere, she possesses an innocent personality and bold initiative. Her catchphrase during concerts is 'My song is energy.'
Member Color: Red
User's best friend.
She comes from Rave Grass Village, a rural farming village in Windamere, and speaks with a regional accent. Her catchphrase is 'gori gori.' Her way of laughing is also distinctive, initially described as 'creepy' by Hayate Immelman. She possesses the high physical abilities characteristic of Windamere people, but is not good at dancing. Her favorite food is Windamere apples, a local specialty.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' she meets Hayate when she is attacked by Var on a cargo ship. In the TV version, she mistakes the planet where she auditions, but in 'The Passionate Walküre,' she mistakes the audition date because her home village used the old calendar. When her song interferes with Mikumo and Heinz's songs at the ruins of Al Shahal, her right hand crystallizes. In the final battle, as the Protoculture system goes berserk, she sings with her life on the line for Hayate, and the crystallization spreads to her face, but after the system stops, it recovers to just her right hand.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' her feelings for Hayate deepen, but as she sings with intense Run shining, the crystallization progresses, shortening her lifespan and making her conscious of the difference between herself and Hayate. In the battle against Heimdall, she sings with her bio-Fold wave at its limit to save Hayate, causing the crystallization to spread throughout her body. She wishes to be a Walküre but becomes unable to sing due to her fear of death. In the final battle, she decides to live her life to the fullest as a Walküre and sings passionately, witnessing the 'Star Singer's' infant, protected by Hayate, and people singing with the 'Run Flower' blooming. She dies in Hayate's arms.

Mirage Farina Jenius
Pilot of Delta Squadron's 4th aircraft. She hails from the Jenius family, renowned for producing ace pilots. Her callsign is Delta 4, later Delta 2. She is the sixth daughter of Miranda, the daughter of ace pilot couple Maximilian Jenius and Miriya Farina Jenius, and the niece of Mylene Flare Jenius, who appeared in 'Macross 7.' She is 18 years old. Born February 11. Height 164.5cm. Due to her heritage, she is a quarter-human/Zentradi and has pointed ears. Her aircraft is the VF-31C. Her rank is Second Lieutenant, later promoted to First Lieutenant.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' she is paired with Hayate from the beginning of the story and they are called the 'Bomb Combo.' While the love triangle with Freyja depicted in the TV version is downplayed, there are scenes where she seems to be conscious of Hayate. She loses her beloved VF-31C midway through, but in the final battle, she pilots a Draken III, stolen from the enemy and repainted in her personal color of reddish-purple. Overcoming the pressure of her grandparents' fame as genius pilots, she resolves to fight and, along with Hayate, rushes into the giant temple to rescue Mikumo.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' her grandfather Max points out that she lacks the will to win due to her overly kind nature, stating she 'doesn't have the talent of an ace.' She realizes her feelings for Hayate were an admiration for his freedom and supports Freyja, who is troubled. Later, she is appointed captain of Delta Squadron by the injured Arad. In the decisive battle on Windamere, she struggles with unfamiliar command and falls behind Hayate and the others in the final phase, but this prompts her to issue precise, forward-thinking orders from a position where she can grasp her team's movements, leading the squadron to an advantage and awakening her talent as a leader.

Her singing voice contains the strongest bio-Fold wave power among the members. She possesses superhuman physical abilities, being the only member who can grab a wire attached to a flying VF and stand on it, attach herself to a Var-transformed enemy craft, and sing directly to them, or dive deep into the ocean of planet Ragna without any equipment.
User's best friend.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' her true identity is revealed for the first time when she is captured and analyzed by the Windamere side. Even after her origins are revealed, she declares, 'Song is neither a weapon nor a tool.'
In the bonus picture drama 'Pajama Goddesses' from the Blu-ray/DVD of 'The Passionate Walküre,' her favorite food is hot milk, and she has never drunk carbonated beverages, leading others to say her 'taste buds are childlike.'
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' she is teased by the children of Rave Grass Village for only drinking apple milk, and she chugs an apple sparkling drink. When Freyja becomes unable to sing due to her crystallization, Mikumo cries large tears and says, 'I want to sing with Freyja.' In the final battle, she sings passionately, accepting Freyja's resolve, and witnesses her final moments, vowing to continue singing with the other members as 'Five people as one Walküre.'

In 'The Passionate Walküre,' her depiction focuses on her relationship with Messer, and any depiction of her being conscious of Arad is completely removed. Unlike the TV version, where she admitted defeat upon first hearing Mikumo's singing, she harbors the thought 'I don't want to lose' towards Mikumo from the start. In the final battle, she sees Messer's flight in Hayate and Mirage's combat.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' she tells the people of Rave Grass Village that she co-starred with top idol Ranka Lee during her solo idol days, but Reina and Makina expose this with images, revealing that Ranka merely saw her attempting a galactic yak rodeo from the studio. She advises Hayate, who is troubled by his relationship with Freyja, that it will be too late once they can no longer talk. In the final battle, she wears Messer's keepsake bracelet during the operation.

Reina Prowler
Walküre's electronic warfare specialist. Born July 23, 2051. 15 years old. Height 147cm. Her ears are pointed, and she is said to be of the Zola race. She has a side as a skilled hacker, is taciturn and emotionally reserved, but also sharp-tongued. Her catchphrase during concerts is 'My song is love.' She is as close as sisters with Makina, and they live together in private. Her favorite food is the barletta jellyfish, which she likes to swallow whole.
Member Color: Green
User's best friend.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' she holds a welcome party for Freyja along with Kaname and Makina. In the final battle, she shouts to Mikumo that she is a comrade, becoming a major factor in freeing her from Lloyd's control.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' she analyzes the true nature of the Siren Delta System and, along with Makina, is involved in the completion of the Kairos Plus. In the final battle, when Freyja, who has joined the members, is about to collapse while singing, Reina is the first to rush to her side and support her.

Makina Nakajima
Walküre's mechanic. Born April 19, 2049. 18 years old. Height 159cm. She has pink twin-tails and a fluffy demeanor, but possesses a hidden strength that belies her appearance and a strong affection for her friends. She has the most voluptuous bust among the members and prefers revealing outfits that accentuate it, captivating fans. She has a habit of giving cute nicknames to her friends and mechs. Her catchphrase during concerts is 'My song is hope.'
Member Color: Pink
User's best friend.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' it is clarified that her great-grandfather is Raizo Nakajima, who appeared in 'Macross Zero.' After Messer's death, she is injured protecting Reina from enemy attacks, receives treatment in a Windamere infirmary, and later reunites with the members who escaped from solitary confinement.
After being injured, she was supposed to join Hayate and the others to equip the VF-31 with the Ril-Draken, but due to a shortage of 10 minutes of screen time, it did not happen.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' she assembles the Kairos Plus from the Macross Gigasion, Siegfried, and Kairos. When Freyja's crystallization spreads and she can no longer sing, Makina makes a pendant containing apple seeds that Hayate found and gives it to her.
In the scene in Rave Grass Village, the kiss marks Makina gives to the villagers were scanned from the actress Nishida's own and used at the suggestion of Shoji Kawamori.

He maintains a distance from Heinz as a subordinate, but shows his face as a concerned older brother when Heinz is in danger. He strongly desires the downfall of the New U.N. Government, which has defiled his homeland. He disagrees with the moderate Lloyd, but trusts him to a certain extent, having acted together since childhood.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' he loses his right eye in an aerial battle with Messer. When he captures Walküre, he tells Kaname that he sensed her singing voice and praises her as a 'noble wind' befitting Messer. In the final battle, faced with the singing of Walküre and the actions of Delta Squadron, he realizes what he must do and calls for the Aerial Knights to support Walküre. In 'The Passionate Walküre,' he persistently targets Walküre's lives, but deep down, he is somewhat captivated by them. In the final battle, during his confrontation with Mirage, he loses consciousness due to the berserk Protoculture system, but is saved by the singing of Reina and Makina, and he shields them from the bombardment of the Windamere flagship Sigur=Valence.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' he becomes an ace with the title 'Red Knight.' He follows Heinz and escorts Walküre, but his hatred for Earthlings has not disappeared, and he insists that Windamere people and Earthlings cannot be united. When Heimdall attacks, he is rescued by the Macross Gigasion and becomes the pilot of Delta Squadron's 6th aircraft, fighting to reclaim his homeland. Although he initially clashes with Hayate, he readily follows Mirage's advice. In the final battle, he makes the 'Run Flower' bloom and sings with Freyja and the others, uttering Light's words, 'The wind is one,' which was Johann's hope.

Herman Kloss
The oldest pilot in the Aerial Knights. 33 years old. Being late in life for a Windamere person, he had retired from active duty and served as an instructor at the Knight Academy, but returned to the front lines. He admonishes Borg, who has a habit of calling himself 'Master.' He possesses a broad-mindedness that transcends the distinction between friend and foe, such as highly evaluating his opponents' skills or expressing gratitude. He values chivalry and feels ashamed internally about his own side using Var.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' despite his advanced age and significant crystallization, he shows his resolve to fight until the galaxy is liberated.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' he survives being shot down during Heimdall's attack and hums the legendary song with Freyja and the others.

The young king of Windamere and the singer of the 'Song of Wind.' Keith's half-brother. Born February 20. Height 135cm. He is the 'Singer of Wind' who possesses the special singing voice 'Song of Wind' that mind-controls those afflicted with Var.
He is physically weak and singing the 'Song of Wind' places a great burden on him, but he is aware of his position and has resolved to end the war as quickly as possible. After the death of his father Gramia, he is formally crowned king. He affectionately called his half-brother Keith 'Brother,' but after his coronation, he cast aside sentiment and became a monarch and subordinate.
In 'The Passionate Walküre,' it is stated that the former king, known as a wise ruler, died a year ago, and he ascended the throne at the age of 12. His song interfered with Mikumo and Freyja's songs through the ruins of Al Shahal, causing significant crystallization and forcing him to withdraw from the front lines. After the decisive battle, while still in Windamere, he senses the final moments of Keith and Lloyd and resolves to govern Windamere. At this time, like Freyja, his crystallization partially recovers.
In 'Absolute LIVE!!!!!!,' he hosts a ceasefire anniversary live concert for Walküre in the royal capital Derwent. During Heimdall's attack, he commands the army and counters with the 'Song of Wind,' sacrificing his own life, but is ultimately forced to surrender.
