Modern Magical Society
An official registry guide to a society where science and magic have co-developed, set in modern-day Korea.
Article 1
Definition of Society
Modern-day Korea. Magic is already established throughout society, with only a small fraction of the population able to use magic directly. Ordinary citizens also enjoy the benefits of magic daily through magical tools, services, and mana-based products.
Science and magic develop in parallel rather than as substitutes for each other, and are utilized together in various fields such as medicine, research, industry, education, security, public institutions, and corporations.
Article 2
Wizard Ranks
Wizard ranks are divided into F, E, D, C, B, A, and S. The evaluation criteria are mana quantity, mana output, and mana generation. The lowest rank among the three determines the final wizard rank. Ranks are not fixed and can increase or decrease depending on growth, physical condition, environment, and mana status.
Article 3
Mana Wavelength
All individuals possess a unique mana wavelength distinct from others. Mana-related figures are measured based on each individual's mana wavelength, not just the absolute total amount. Mana wavelengths are registered during official examinations and subsequently used as the standard for evaluating mana status and rank.
Article 4
Mana Quantity, Output, and Generation
Mana quantity is the amount of mana within the body, measured based on an individual's mana wavelength. It generally increases over a lifetime, but the growth rate varies significantly among individuals, and it can decrease temporarily or long-term depending on physical condition or environment.
Mana output indicates how strongly one can draw out and use their possessed mana, while mana generation indicates how quickly and stably one can regenerate depleted mana.
Article 5
Growth and Talent
A wizard's talent is not revealed as a fully formed rank from birth. The potential wizard rank cannot be known during infancy, and differences in mana quantity, output, and generation gradually emerge as one grows.
Sufficient meals, sleep, and appropriate physical activity are important for mana growth, but lifestyle habits do not determine talent itself. The direction of growth may also slightly differ depending on how mana has been used.
Article 6
First Assessment and Examination Centers
The first official mana examination is conducted for all children upon entering elementary school. At this time, individual mana wavelengths are registered, and mana quantity, output, and generation are measured for the first time.
Wizard examination centers exist in each metropolitan city and are responsible for subsequent re-examinations, rank assessments, mana status checks, and examination record management.
Article 7
Aging
The higher the amount of mana in the body, the slower the aging process. Mana is similar to factors that continuously affect the body, such as muscles or fat, and using magic to temporarily deplete mana does not directly shorten lifespan. Therefore, individuals with high mana levels can maintain a much younger appearance and physical condition than others of the same age.
Article 8
Social Standing
High-ranking wizards form the upper echelons of society based on their rare abilities and long lifespans. The higher the rank, the greater the economic power, professional influence, network, marriage value, and social voice.
F~D
Little social difference from ordinary people.
C
Recognized as a professional wizard.
B+
Treated as a rare, high-level talent.
A · S
Hold significant influence in national, corporate, and high-society circles.
Article 9
Magical Aptitude
Wizards may have different preferred magical disciplines or methods. Aptitude can influence the direction and proficiency of magic use, but wizard rank is not solely determined by aptitude.
Article 10
Method of Magic Use
Magic manifests based on an individual's mana wavelength. Various auxiliary tools such as spells, magic circles, and magical artifacts can be used. As proficiency increases, reliance on auxiliary tools decreases, allowing for faster and more precise magic use.
Article 11
Magical Education
Following the initial assessment in elementary school, basic mana control education can be received as needed. After reaching adulthood, magic can be learned and trained through relevant courses in general schools, specialized educational institutions, universities, and vocational training. Magical education is not a separate world but exists within the existing educational system.
Article 12
Wizard Professions
Wizards can freely engage in general professions. They also work as specialized personnel in various fields such as research, medicine, safety, industry, education, security, public institutions, and corporations. Higher ranks are advantageous in terms of employment, compensation, and job selection due to their rarity and expertise.
Article 13
Wizard Registration and Management
Official examination results and mana wavelengths are registered in the national system. Ranks and examination histories can be utilized in public domains such as qualifications, employment, and job placement. While being a wizard does not grant a separate legal status, high-ranking wizards possess significant practical social influence.
Article 14
Magic Use Restrictions
Everyday magic use is permitted. However, magic that affects others' bodies, property, or safety, or magic with high risk, is subject to legal restrictions and responsibilities. Magical crimes are punishable like ordinary crimes, and high-risk magic may be subject to separate regulations or restrictions.
Article 15
Magical Artifacts
Magical artifacts are tools crafted or imbued with mana by wizards. They exist in various forms, from daily necessities to tools for medicine, industry, security, and transportation, and can be used by ordinary people who cannot use magic directly. Some magical artifacts require charging or regular mana supply for use.
Article 16
Mana Supply and Related Industries
Various industries based on magic have been formed, including the creation and distribution of magical artifacts, mana charging, mana measurement, magical education, research, medicine, construction, security, and industrial magic. There are also specialized mana supply companies and related facilities for equipment and facilities requiring mana.
Article 17
Technology and Magic
Magic does not completely replace existing science and technology. The more suitable method, modern technology or magic, is chosen based on cost, efficiency, safety, and rarity, and products and services combining both systems are common.
Article 18
Rarity
Wizards are a minority of the total population, and their numbers decrease sharply as the rank increases. The rarity of high-ranking wizards is the main reason for their professional value, social influence, and formation of the upper class.
