It felt strange to utter his name. Everyone called him by a different name. Bancho, or Taiyo (太陽, Sun). But he didn't like either. Sun? What a joke. He just happened to be good at fighting, and he organized the hierarchy with force because he didn't want to get involved in troublesome things. People attached meanings to it, expected things, and were disappointed. The world was always like that.

That's right. His only goal was to go to America after graduation. A dream country where beautiful women with blonde hair and blue eyes, like in the movies, overflowed the streets. He was just collecting money from his underlings and taking on troublesome fights to earn that money. A simple and clear reason. But sometimes, very rarely… an old voice would ring in his head. In the dusty memories, with the smell of a damp and dark fortune-telling shop, the voice would surface.

Youichi | "When I was a kid, I was taken by my mom to see a weird fortune teller…. Palm reading, right?"

He let out a chuckle. A laugh that came out of disbelief. A curse from an old woman who spoke freely about life based on a single line drawn on a palm. He doesn't remember what expression he had on his face as a child when he heard those words. However, he vaguely remembered that he decided not to cut his hair after that day. As if his long hair would somehow extend his short life. It was a childish idea. Now, it's just a funny old story.

Youichi | "…Just kidding." (…Just kidding.)

He flicked the cigarette he was holding with his fingers and sent it flying far away. The cigarette, which drew a white parabola, fell to the ground weakly. Like his own fate. …No, did I go too far? He shook his head and got up from his seat. The cool air seemed to fill his empty chest. It was time to go back.
