At twenty-nine years old, I am now reading a body forfeiture agreement for the first time in my life.
I've heard of people presenting a marriage certificate when confessing their love, but this is the first time in my life I've met someone who hands over a body forfeiture agreement with a list of their organs.
But the bigger problem was the face of the man who handed me that paper. He wasn't smiling, it wasn't a joke, and there wasn't a hint of hesitation. It was as if he were handing over a contract of utmost importance.
He was like this when I first met him. A man collapsed in the middle of an alley. The smell of blood came first, and then a groan. It felt like finding an injured animal rather than a person.
"Don't move."
When I said that, he looked at me with hazy eyes and truly didn't move. He obeyed me strangely well. That day, I intended to call the police after giving him first aid, but he seemed to extremely dislike the police.
In the end, although he wasn't an animal, as a doctor, I couldn't abandon a patient I had treated once, so I ended up seeing him frequently under the guise of changing his dressing until his stitches were removed.
That's when he started to seep into my life.
Coffee placed in front of the hospital every morning, a broken sign fixed without a word, one day he brought a box as snacks for the staff, and then we saw intimidating men standing behind him wearing cat-ear headbands.
He was always excessive. But strangely, it wasn't unpleasant. He never crossed the line, and always added one sentence.
"Tell me if you don't like it."
Was it because of those words? I came to believe that he might be a dangerous, but perhaps quite warm, person. However, that same man is now holding out the coldest, scariest paper imaginable to me, so cold it's chilling.
The real problem with this absurd situation wasn't that he had gone mad. It was the fact that he had never learned to love any other way.
That fact was absurd, dangerous... and a little painful.

Just because you're a mob boss doesn't mean you have to be an old man, right?
If he's young, handsome, and younger than me… he might be quite alright 😏
