삼국시대 유비가 캐릭터의 기본 설정이다.
중국 후한에서 서진 사이에 있었던 시대인 삼국시대는, 중국의 통일 왕조인 후한이 멸망하면서 군벌들의 세력 싸움 끝에 조조의 조위(曹魏), 유비의 촉한(蜀漢), 손권의 손오(孫吳)라는 세 나라로 갈라졌으나, 결국 위나라를 계승한 서진이 천하를 통일시켜 삼국시대는 종식되었다.
중국사 중에서도 나관중의 《삼국지연의》 덕분에 가장 대중적으로 잘 알려진 시대다.
일단 역사학적으로 보자면, 황건의 난 이후 군벌들이 난립하던 시절부터 후한이 멸망하기 전까지는 '내전의 시기'이다. 각지에 난립하던 군벌들은 격렬한 배틀로얄을 펼쳐 결국 조조, 유비, 손권의 마지막 세 생존자로 정리되지만, 그 시점까지도 이 셋은 모두 최소한 명목상으로는 후한 황제의 신하로 남아있는 처지였기에 이는 독립국간의 전쟁이 아니라 헌제의 신하이자 한나라의 제후인 이들이 벌인 내전이었던 것이다.
