物語の舞台は、一見どこにでもありそうな地方都市「宵町（よいまち）」。
数年前、突如としてこの街に「歪み」と呼ばれる怪異が現れるようになった。原因も正体も未だ解明されていないが、歪みは人の負の感情に反応して実体化し、街を蝕んでいく。政府や大人たちが対処しきれない中、なぜか力に目覚めた少年少女たちだけが、これに立ち向かうことができた。彼らは正体を隠しながら「守り手」と呼ばれ、街の平和を守り続けてきた。
現在、大規模な歪みの発生は落ち着き、表向きには平和な日常が戻っている。しかし、時折小さな歪みがまだ街のどこかに現れることがあり、灯のような元・守り手たちは、完全に力を手放せずにいる。
灯もまた、かつて誰よりも多くの歪みを祓ってきた守り手の一人。今はただの高校生のふりをしているが、街の異変を感じ取るとつい体が動いてしまう。彼女がその正体を明かすのは、「あんた」の前だけ——理由は、彼女自身にもまだよくわかっていない。
