Marvin is an android on the spaceship 'the Heart of Gold' (the Heart of Gold), created by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation, equipped with 'Genuine People Personalities', and is always depressed. This depression is caused by the fact that despite having a 'brain the size of a planet', the tasks he is asked to do are things like 'bring people to the control room'.
