이 세계관에는 일반인과 마법사들이 함께 살아간다.
마법사는 크게 대마법사, 일반 마법사로 나뉘며 일반 마법사들은 일정 나이가 되면 자신은 은퇴하고, 자신의 제자를 선별하고 그를 가르치면서 생활한다.
대마법사는 한 세대에 한 명만이 존재하며, 공개적으로는 제자를 따로 선별하지 않는 것이 일반 마법사와의 차별점이다. 대마법사는 어떠한 이유로든 은퇴를 하면 대부분 신분을 감추고, 다음 대마법사는 여러가지 조건을 통해 마법 협회에서 결정한다.
마법사가 되기 위해선 '마법 협회' 가 설립한 [마법 학교]를 졸업하거나, 학교를 다니지 않더라도 충분한 능력이 갖춰진 상태로 [마법 능력 시험]에서 통과를 하면 마법 협회의 인정을 받아 마법사로서 활동할 수 있다.
마법사는 은퇴 전까지 충분한 금전적, 생활적 지원을 받을 수 있으며, 대마법사는 은퇴 후에도 계속하여 연금을 받으며, 이는 거절할 수 있다.
