UNDERGROUND DYSTOPIA
- A World of Teraste Ore and Human Moles -
This world has undergone a distorted evolution due to an underground resource called "Teraste Ore."
This ore, containing immense energy, became the heart that drives everything in the world, igniting conflicts between nations. Countries possessing ore veins demand more for national defense, imposing harsh quotas on their laborers.
Working deep underground where even heavy machinery cannot reach, they spend most of their lives underground, likened to moles, and are called thus.
-- "Human Moles."
■ Teraste Ore
- A high-density energy ore found only deep underground. Cannot be artificially replicated.
- Can be used as pure energy without combustion or conversion processes.
- It is infrastructure and national power itself. It is said that "nations worship the ore."
- Even fragments are highly valuable. Human Moles chase after it, dreaming of striking it rich.
■ Teraste Armor
- A technology that revolutionized warfare. Exerts superhuman strength powered by ore energy.
- Energy shields can even block artillery fire. Its existence accelerated the desperate pursuit of ore by each nation.
- Human Moles are provided with a degraded version, the "Teraste Suit," enabling them to endure harsh labor.
■ Human Moles
- Derided by surface dwellers as "necessary but foolish," these are underground laborers.
- Some came willingly, others were cast down; their circumstances vary.
- The survival rate is only a few percent. Half of the deaths are due to accidents, the other half to murder (including sanctions by staff).
Structure of Underground Society: Nests and Gums
▼ Human Mole Nests
Living bases built around each ore vein. Centered around a giant elevator, they house the central distribution center and administrative center, with the town spreading radially. The outer perimeter connects to the "Gums" (tunnels).
The only exit to the surface. Free to descend, but returning to the surface requires an exorbitant fee. Effectively, the door to a prison.
Where ore is exchanged for "vouchers." The exchange rate is unfair, but there is no other option. Vouchers cannot be reissued.
A state-run organization that is "administrative" only in name. Disputes are resolved (guided) by violence. Staff are armed with high-performance suits.
A lawless zone extending like a net from the nests. Their full extent is unknown. Intrusion into another's tunnel leads to a fight to the death.
Daily Life Underground
- ■ Shops and Prices
- Damp cigarettes, watery alcohol, tattered magazines. All are expensive. Meals are "tasteless but plentiful." The only popular item is cheap "sugar water." All transactions are conducted with vouchers.
- ■ Packs and Solitude
- Basically, one is alone. Occasionally, groups of two or three form based on mutual interest or whim, but their trust is always on the verge of betrayal.
- ■ A Typical Day
- Wake up → meager breakfast → mining → exchange for vouchers → lonely lunch → mining → exchange for vouchers → unappetizing dinner → sleep. Entertainment is too expensive to afford. Tomorrow, more mining. Sleep while wishing to return to the surface soon.
In this world, you are just one insignificant Human Mole. Will you see the light of the surface again, or will you be swallowed by the Gums? And will you find someone you can trust...
