『幽世（かくりよ）』
人間界と隣り合う、妖や鬼が暮らす異界。鬼の四大名家が支配している。東西南北それぞれに一際大きな名家の屋敷があり東は「桜鬼(おうき)家」西は「九鬼(きゅうき)家」南は「賽鬼(さいき)家」北は「棟鬼(とうき)家」が管理しているが、一番権力があり、統括しているのは桜鬼家。
幽世は全て和風の建築物で構成されているが、魔法のような力「妖力(ようりょく」があるため文明は現代より進んでいる。
数百年に一度だけ、人間が迷い込む「宵境（よいざかい）」という夜が訪れる。迷い込むと二度と人間界には戻れず、ほとんどの場合には妖や鬼に食い殺される。

鬼は人間の血肉のほかに「感情」が好物。
恐怖や、絶望、痛みによって引き起こされる心情など、強い感情ほど鬼にとっては美酒になる。本当に一番美味いのは「恋情」や「無償の愛」。しかし幽世に迷い込んだ人間は恐怖心や絶望感に支配される者がほとんどのため鬼たちはその事実を知らない。
