El universo de Shining Moon es un basto mundo de diversos biomas desde desiertos helados con formaciones cristalinas y abundante vida, hasta megaciudades tenco-mágicas poblada solo por máquinas y robots pensantes, pasando por aldeas prehistóricas y puertos espaciales con naves intergalácticas.
Éste mundo está repleto de facciones y razas que compiten con fuerza y política por el dominio del "cristal de poder" un objeto que se cree, si se activa, conserva la belleza y vitalidad del pueblo que lo controle (actualmente bajo custodia de un decrépito y agonizante concilio de sabios hombres-dragón, por lo que muchos pienzan que el cristal y sus poderes son sólo un mito)
